AquiSense Provides Progress Report on Water Treatment Project for International Space Station
AquiSense Technologies (Europe) Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of AquiSense Technologies LLC, has participated in the Biocontamination Integrated Control for Wet Systems for Space Exploration (BIOWYSE) project, a 3 Year European Union funded program that aims to address biocontamination issues on the International Space Station (ISS). The project incorporates an advanced UV-C LED water disinfection system engineered by AquiSense.
AquiSense is part of a seven-company consortium that has made significant progress on developing a potable water handling system for the use in future manned space missions. The intent of the project is to develop an integrated chemical-free system to control and monitor biomass growth in potable water systems aboard the ISS. Two years into the project, the consortium has developed the main components of the system, which includes a number of advanced technologies. AquiSense’s patent-protected UV-C LED Decontamination Module inactivates bacteria utilizing ultraviolet light. The next stage of the project is to begin integration testing in March 2018, followed by laboratory and field testing through to the end of the year.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to participate in BIOWYSE as this represents a significant milestone in the history of UV disinfection,” says AquiSense’s CTO, Jennifer Pagan. “Historically, UV systems would not have been considered for space applications due to the fragility and reliability of conventional UV systems that utilize lamps containing mercury. The development of UV-C LED based systems has spurred the development of an entirely new generation of UV technologies that are better suited for space exploration and other challenging environments.”
The UV-C LED disinfection system utilized for the BIOWYSE project is based on the core platform used in AquiSense’s PearlAqua™ product, which is the world’s first UV-C LED disinfection system and is backed by several patents, awards, and certifications. AquiSense Technologies and Distform S.L. Collaborate to Offer Award-Winning Food Protection
AquiSense Technologies is proud to announce a commercial collaboration with Distform S.L. on their prominent product line, mychef™ combi ovens. The oven combines dry heat and steam and is endorsed by renowned chefs. AquiSense’s PearlAqua Micro™ has been integrated into the mychef oven for disinfection of the steam vapor. The addition of the PearlAqua Micro provides an enhanced level of protection against pathogens that affect food quality and safety. The PearlAqua Micro utilizes advanced UV-C LED technology and is the world’s smallest UV disinfection system.
Mychef ovens line offers accurate controlled climates, including customizable humidity, air flow, and multiple phases. Mychef ovens are the only oven to offer a completely disinfected vapor thanks to the integration of UV technology from AquiSense. The UV technology used in mychef line has gained Disform the Innovation Smart Label by HOST Milano 2017.

AquiSense Technologies Enhances the Micro UV™ Product Platform
AquiSense Technologies announced the introduction of enhancements to its PearlAqua Micro™ product platform, the world’s smallest ultraviolet water treatment system. All products employ UV-C LEDs enabling the application of UV disinfection literally at the point of consumption, opening entirely new applications for water treatment – Micro UV™.
“We introduced our Micro UV systems earlier this year in response to market demand for a low flow validated UV system,” said Oliver Lawal, founder and CEO of AquiSense Technologies. “Since its launch, these systems have been field tested by many leading global OEMs in a variety of markets including commercial, medical, transportation, residential, and life sciences. We have been pleased with the results and admire the creativity of our partners in applying this technology often in applications we never envisioned. The enhancements announced today are a direct result of intense collaboration with OEM partners.”
Introduced earlier this year, the PearlAqua Micro range has now been refined to reduce cost, cover an increased flow range, and added a UV intensity sensor option. “The addition of a UV intensity sensor is a game changing development for small flow systems and demonstrates the advantages of moving to a Digital Disinfection™ approach afforded by UV-C LEDs,” says Jennifer Pagan, CTO of AquiSense Technologies. “Being able to cost effectively incorporate UV intensity sensors into these systems is a key requirement for mission critical applications such as medical devices and ultra-pure water.”
Included in the enhanced product line are four additional models. Six discrete configurations are now available allowing for optimization based on process water conditions. Several specification improvements have also been introduced increasing the applicability and ease of adoption of the systems.
The official global launch of these new systems is set to take place at Aquatech Amsterdam between October 31st and November 3rd, providing exclusive first-access for attendees. AquiSense will be exhibiting these new systems at Booth 07.549B.

UNEP's Minamata Convention Ratified and has been put into Force
The United Nation's convention to eliminate the use and production of mercury has been signed by 128 countries and ratified by 76 making it an enforced treaty by the United Nations.
The Minamata Convention will have its first conference in Geneva the 24th - 29th of September 2017.
The Minamata Convention on Mercury is a global treaty to protect human health and the environment from the adverse effects of mercury. Major highlights of the Minamata Convention include a ban on new mercury mines, the phase-out of existing ones, the phase-out and phase down of mercury use in a number of products and processes, control measures on emissions to air and on releases to land and water.
